If your student is one of the thousands and thousands leaving home for college, he or she can take the edge off of that first day in the dorms with a new service. URoomSurf helps students find roommates that will be the perfect match for them. Even Facebook can’t provide that kind of networking.

3. The Reality Show: N.Y.U. (The New York Times)

In this video clip, current N.Y.U. students offer incoming N.Y.U. students tips on how to survive college life in the big city. Even if your child has no interest or plan to go to N.Y.U., any new college freshman could relate to many of the anxiety-inducing, independent-feeling and all-too-true stories shared.

4. For-Profit Schools Put in Detention (The Wall Street Journal)

For-profit schools are in the dog house. For years now many of them have relied on taxpayer-guaranteed loans to fund overpriced degrees (e.g. $47,000 2-year degree for a $30,000 salary upon graduation). Now new government regulations could lead to major tuition cuts.
