Math Careers: Economist Careers

What is an economist?
Economics is based on a simple idea – supply and demand. When you create the demand (you want jeans) others will supply what you need (Gap has jeans). Economists study how supply and demand balances out. Sometimes we demand too much when there’s too little; other times we’re not demanding enough to support our local businesses. By researching these ups and downs, economists help organizations, companies and resource providers (from farms to power plants) prepare for what demands may come next. Just be sure to say please and thank you.

How much education do you need?
Most economist careers require a master’s degree or a Ph.D., M.D. or J.D. (law degree).
