Math Careers: Become a Statistician
What is a statistician?
Every 10 years the U.S. counts everyone in the country. This is called the census. Without statisticians, we would have no census and no clue about how many people we’re dealing with here! Statisticians are math whizzes who look at numbers and figure out what we need based on those numbers. For example, knowing how many people work in a city, they can calculate how many trains to run at rush hour or how many coffee shops to open. Statisticians may work in medicine, sports, government, market research and industry. There’s plenty of research yet to be done for statisticians!
How much education do you need?
Most statistician careers require a master’s degree or a Ph.D., M.D. or J.D. (law degree).
Does this career fit your personality type?
